The tourism industry expansion is highly dependent on controlling the impacts of its operations on the environment and the promotion of ecofriendly consuming behaviors.
The need for an environmentally friendly tourism is indeed essential for the stakeholders of this industry.
Through the enforcement of “the new National Charter for Sustainable Tourism” and the organization of the COP22, Morocco is granted the opportunity to display its efforts and achievements in sustainable tourism and show the way for other destinations around the world and specifically on the African continent.
Morocco has indeed been working tirelessly to enhance tourism’s contribution to socio-economic development while cutting down its impact on the environment and the local communities, preserving culture and heritage as well as promoting principles of fairness, ethical and social responsibility. These 4 guide lines that Moroccan authorities have been implementing are positioning the country at the outposts in terms of sustainable tourism development
In addition, the choice of Marrakech which is Morocco tourism prime destination as the host city for the event is another evidence of the importance granted to sustainability in the tourism industry.
All these reasons have convinced that a dedicated conference on sustainable and ecofriendly tourism as well as the new solutions to be implemented on this industry was more than relevant and certainly an interesting topic for all the stakeholders of the industry.
His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, UN speech of April 22, 2016.
«We hope that the COP 22 in Marrakech will be an opportunity to enhance global awareness on the need to continue the collective commitment to face climate change».
