”TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY, THE AFRICAN CHALLENGE
Never before has humankind had the possibility to travel so easily with such a huge choice of destinations and activities for all type of tourists and budgets.
This new era of tourism consumption with an increasing number of tourists worldwide that heightens competition between tourism operators to levels that were never seen before, also opens an array of new and exciting investment opportunities.
This competition which remains very much in the interests of tourists and travelers alike should however not be driven by the sole rules of market and free trade. It should also take into account the impact that such a great number of travelers has on the environment and the local communities. Within the context of COP22, and while traveling was identified as the human activity with one of the greatest ecological footprint, it has appeared that a conference on tourism and sustainability was more than needed to discuss the issue on how to allow futures generations to enjoy the pleasure of travelling as much as we do now. To this end, the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Engineering (S.M.I.T.) in partnership with “La Tribune” newspaper intend to organize the COP22 SMART TOURISM AFRICA Forum to bring together in Marrakesh the world’s most respected leaders, operators, investors and advisors of the tourism and hospitality industry, to share their opinions and discuss the importance of taking into consideration sustainability in their field. This conference which is to take place under the form of panels, will also be focusing on innovation and the practical solutions that can be implemented in the African context to ensure a profitable yet sustainable tourism industry on the continent.
